We are the Southern Illinois Pagan Alliance (SIPA.)

Since its founding in 1998, Southern Illinois Pagan Alliance (SIPA) has grown from a small group to a community of Pagans, Wiccans, and followers of other Earth-based spiritual traditions.  Over the years, we have expanded in size as well as made connections to other organizations. We have built on our goal of educating our non-Pagan neighbors by becoming a visible and positive presence in the region. We hope to continue to serve the Pagan community of Southern Illinois and neighboring regions for years to come.

SIPA celebrates Imbolc, Saturday, Feb . 1 at Gaia House in Carbondale

SIPA holds its first public ritual of the decade, Saturday, Feb. 1 at Gaia House in Carbondale.

Imbolc is the midwinter festival honoring Brigid, who among other things, is the Goddess of fire, poetry, healing, childbirth and unity.

Imbolc is the celebration of the returning light and the first stirrings of spring such as early-budding leaves and the sprouting of crocus flowers.  During the festival, candles are lit to symbolize the returning sun.  The Christianized version of Imbolc is known as Candlemas.

Participants are asked to bring a red candle, either new or from past SIPA rituals.  The gathering starts at 6:00 p.m. with the ritual to follow at 7:00 p.m. A potluck will follow.

Gaia House is located at 913 South Illinois Avenue (the corner of Grand and US-51) in Carbondale.  Please utilize the public parking lot across the street (south) of Gaia House,  From US-51 going south, take a left turn at the next light after the intersection of US-51 and Grand Avenue.  From US-51 north, take a right away from the entrance to Southern Illinois University,.
